They just announced to us as well. These boats are not yet built. I would guess we would not import a carbon FX One... wow, that would be expensive. No saying on the others. Again, don't think they are actually production boats yet. Proposed and showing in Paris this winter.

Don't think so. I would think the carbon boat is an add, not a replacement. Can't imagine selling many.

A new F-18. If I were to guess, inverted bows, wing mast, canted hulls like the Infusion & (I think) Capricorn.

Matt- Would the Carbon FXone be available if one desired one? I realize you wouldn't want to chance buying one and sitting on it forever. Not that I would, but who knows. I've done dumber things before.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but i would assume that the Pearl is going to be the new f-18 being that its almost 18 feet long.

Not with centerboards, dacron sails, or a regular spinnaker setup. This has a roller hooter.

3 New catamarans by Hobie Cat Europe for 2009
With the new season about to commence, Hobie cat Europe has been working to extend their range to renew some models as well as add other models, in order to reply to market demands. The first new model concerns the Formula 18.

Since a certain time, a number of rumors have been apparently circulating concerning a new Formula 18 project. In order to reply to this situation, today, 13 August, Hobie Cat Europe is pleased to announce that the project of a new 18 foot catamaran specifically for Formula 18 racing is in development. This project is using perhaps one of the best naval architechts in the world currently, particularly in multihulls, and a well-known sailmaker, in close collaboration with the worlds best F 18 racers, combined with the full technical and marketing staff of HCE. The latest high-tech developments will be used for this project.

The development of this new production F 18 should be seen as a new project, to exist along side the current Hobie Tiger, International ISAF Class, in which the next Worlds - currently under consideration - is Lake Garda for the year 2010.

More information will follow, as this new project nears production at Hobie Cat Europe in Toulon, France.

I'm thinking with polyester hulls, a max load of about 520lbs and Dacron sails, the Pearl is the next in line of the Wave and Getaway class.

Polyester, as is resin, this is a frp boat.

Only other Hobies with listed max. loads are the 14 (500 lbs.), 16 (800 lbs.) and the 17 (max. wing load of 315 lbs.) and 18SX (max. wing load of 550 lbs.)

Same mast height as the Tiger, same main size, same jib size, smaller third sail. Length/width virtually identical to the Tiger, wonder what the weight will be?

No, the Pearl (concept) is not the F18 they discussed. Interesting that Hobie Cat France has made these announcements actually. None of the boats is beyond a concept at this point, so don't get too excited.
