Slightly off topic but, any beachcat sailors/kite surfers out there? My crew is looking to buy a trap harness that can be also used for kite surfing? Are these products similar or are they two completely different animals? |

I have been through this about 10 months ago. I wanted to use my old diaper-style kiteboarding harness, but it did not work. The harness itself was OK, although there seemed to be lots of ends to catch to something, but the main problem was the hook on the spreader bar. I could not keep dog bone on the hook unless there was tension on the bungee. I fell off the cat several times because of that. ![]() I ended up buying Hobie Skipper's harness. |

For several years I used a windsurfing seat harness on the Hobie. It worked pretty well, but it was cut very low and offered basically zero back support. The hook is a relatively inexpensive portion of the harness. Worst case scenario, he could have two hooks, one for kite, one for Hobie. I actually prefer to use my windsurfing hook over the standard Hobie hooks. I don't follow kiting a lot, but I believe many of the new hooks are actually flared at the end so that they intentionall don't come unhooked (not something you would want on a Hobie). I believe most kiters use a waist harness. This is basically a large strap (similar to a weight lifting belt) that goes around your waist. It probably wouldn't be too comfortable for Hobie sailing because it offers no support to your rear end. If he's going to use a seat harness for kiting, then I would say yes, it will probably work ok. If he's going to use a waist harness, I don't think it would be too comfortable. sm |

Yeah, a waist harness is out. I think a windsurfing seat harness with a higher back would be ideal for both beachcats and kites. She could get both spreader bars. Thanks!
