Finally got on the water today after a bit of a layoff- it has been too hot and humid here with light winds this summer!! Anyway, once I got on the river I sought out targets- I blew away three or four monoslugs, had no pity on a Sunfish, even managed to sail by a 35+ ft. cat. Of course they were more comfortable sipping their cocktails than I was on my Hobie. The winds were good, I was able to fly a hull part of the time, but I didn't have my trap harness with me!! I saw a sail go up on the far side of the river. It looked like it had the "H" on the sail, so I headed that way to check it out. I arrived just as two folks got under way in an H16. I managed to overtake and pass them crossing the river and did it again coming back. I saw another sail go up ahead of me on the distant shore so I zipped over there to check it out. Another Hobie, this time better equipped and sailed. It had stuff written on the sides of the hull and at first I thought it said "FX One", I'm not sure, but I am certain whatever it said, that was followed by "Formula" also in script. It had wings and seemed a bit bigger that my H16 so maybe you guys can tell me what it was- an FX One, 18 Formula, Fox? I didn't get a good look, since I started in trail after popping a rudder on a crab pot- those things are everywhere and a real pain. While they didn't leave me in the dust they increased their distance steadily. After nearly 5 hours on the water, I was beat! It was a hassle pulling her out since all the power boats decided to quit at the same time- a lot of boats and only one ramp. I finally got it out and headed for home and a shower. Boy, was I really tired. I was sore everywhere, and my hands kept cramping up all evening. The price someone who is a few months shy of 60 has to pay when he tries to sail like a 20 or 30 something. But it was fun!!!! |

glucosamine and condroitin I was "turned on" to this stuff about this first by my nephew who rehabed from a severe auto accident. I tore the miniscus in my left knee and thought I was headed for surgery. I tried the pills on my nephew's recommendation and in 30 days could feel the effects. Wrinklie (Bruce Fields) told me he has been taking glucosamine for 15 years. He says the condroitin is only for those with arthritis! BTW, Bruce is 70 something and still racing Hobies. (long story to get to, and tie to the other thread)...Prior to using this stuff, by the end of the season my hands would be sore constantly (jambed fingers, etc.) because of never having time for them to recooperate. Now I don't I notice pain in my hands ![]() |

![]() Five days, 19 races in heavy air, wet conditions. Great time, also member of the 70 plus sailors. Advil works for me. Caleb Tarleton |
