As I make plans for this years events, putting events on the calendar, getting the boat rigged ect. I wonder what else are people doing to prepare for the season, is your boat ready to sail. Hulls and x bars cleaned and polished, Hobie cleaner and protectant. Tramp tightened and inspected for tears and frayed lines. New harness spreaders and handles installed, Bethwaite system, no more hooks to scratch my hulls. New sails ordered, new spin blocks, new halyard, new tires for trailer. Inspect lighting and trailer conections , bolts and stands checked for tightness. X bar bolts on boat checked, all mast fittings checked and prebend adjusted for the new sail. Shrouds and standing rig inspected and replaced where neaded. I'm ready for this year. What are other people doing maybe im missing something or something your doing can help someone else. Kind of like last years "What have you done for your Hobie lately?" by Jeremy at Surf City. |

It was -24*F here this morning. The high for today was -8*F. It is currently -22*F. The low for tonight will be -25*F The high for tomorrow is supposed to be 9*F. Notice a trend? I won't be sailing for a very, very long time. |

At some point before the sailing season gets started, I need to fix a leak in the starboard hull of my 17. That and I'm trying to figure out how to sneak some new rudders past my wife. I need to get a parts list for Dog down at Mariner and I'm hoping they have the carbon rudders. |

I will be adding trap lines to my Getaway. Other than that I am good to go, it is after all a getaway; you kiss'm once, spank'm twice, and toss'm in the water. (The high yesterday was 9) |

EPO2 Rudder Blade Carbon - HC 20490020: 2 currently in stock. And even if they get sold, it's starting to look like we're already into "weekly parts order" mode. Shop weather station says 28F. Which is just as well since it also says zero mph. |

I got my black bright shiny new rudders in the mail from Mariner-Sails.com yeterday. Come on hobieokc, just say what works for me "it's a safety issue. you don't want me to get hurt, do you?" If you don't get any, you can always admire mine! ![]() |

Heh! Still plenty of snow here as well. We have had record snow fall this winter so far. But my boat is stored in a heated aircraft hangar snug as a bug! I have a couple of maintenace items to do before the boat goes to the beach this season. I have to replace the rubber on the side rails as I noticed late last season it started to get slippery when bare footed. I am concerned that it may be a real chore to get the old rubber and glue off. Have any of you done this? The second thing I need to address is my jib. Last season I had the line that attaches the head of the jib to the luff wire come loose. (improper pre-sail inspection). Ever since that occured my jib flutters a bit in the upper leach. I have readjusted the line that came loose to a tighter, and looser position but still have the flutter which drives me crazy. Did the jib get stretched when the line came loose? If I cant get this fixed I will for sure buy a new jib. Can I still get the 07 jib color Matt M? Other than those issues I just need to look it all over very well and use it! I am fortunate that in the first two seasons for this boat I have had it on the water about 70 times. I think I get more sailing in than just about anyone else here in CDA area. |

The fact that you sailed the boat 70 times in two seasons has more to do with the leech flutter than the luff tensioning line (which has little or no effect on the leech). Two things you can try before buying a new jib - move the jib sheet up a hole or two in the clew plate (but you may not be able to point as high), or take the sail to a sail repair shop and have them tighten up the leech a bit. |

I want a new main and jib for my 18SX, my tattered old one is tattered and old, and the chicks don't dig it anymore. What's that old saying about boats being a hole in the water? |

What's that old saying about boats being a hole in the water? Chicks dig Pentex square tops. Thats what you need, then add the spin for the pretty colors up front. |

It still may be to early here to be out yet on the boat, but there are a couple of rules clinics coming up to attend. That should keep our mind in the game. |
