I have been tieing my jib blocks/pulleys to my jib each time I go sailling. The line stays attached to the jib and all I do is tie a bowline knot to each block which stay attached to the jib sheets that remian on the boat. To save a few minutes and to allow inexperienced crew to perform this task, I thought it would be best to replace the rope with a quick release ring of sorts or carribeaner.... Does anyone have recommendations, a name ot the part, or where to start looking? I have only stopped at the local West Marine today and again was very dissapointed with the supplies in their store......Thoughts? |

There is a quick twist shackle for this (Murrays 21-1032) or I have just used a stainless steel snap hook. You are right about West Marine. My store never restocks anything. Very frustrating. |

The small bell shackle PN 1087000 is the one that all of the racers use. They weave the shackle through the micro blocks and 2 holes in the clew. Hard to explain, someone has a pic I'm sure. J |

It is a 21SE. I thought I placed the boat type in the post, but apparently I did not. The shackle would work with the curved section of the shackle going thru the blocks and the bar at the sail. On the SE jib this is only a clew grommet. Wouldn't this have the jib pulling at the corner of the bar / shackle interface and not be a point load? It most likely doesn't matter, but I thought it would be best to have a ring or SS caribineer (sp?)that would adjust to the straight point load instead of some other load. I am leaning towards a 2"-3" diameter ring, but cannot find anywhere yet so the next best is the SS caribineer (sp?) for $8 unless a better solution comes along. |

That line attached to the clew plate (called pigtails) will give you better control of the jib. I'd by two small shackles, like Jeremy suggested, and leave them permanently attached to the ends of the pigtails. |

Thanks for the further explaination. I wasn't thinking....if I left the pigtails and had the shackles attached to them would work great vs. my initial thinking of having the shackles attached thru the grommet of the clew. This is a much easier solution. |
