Post subject:  Help me set this sucker up!

i've been setting up Hobie 16's as a camp couselor for a BSA camp for a couple of weeks, and i've co-owned a 1983 H18' for 2.? summers now, and from not having sailed it since summer before last, i need some tips...or like general stupid-pants knowledge. what do i do with the clips on the jib hallyard and since appearantly there aren't any cleats, where exactly does the stuff tie off to? the chrome handle at the base of the mast? if i don't get a response quick enough, i'll be able to figure it out at the place i'm sure, but it would be nice to know i've set it up properly. i had NO idea it was so differnt from the 16s i'd been setting up!

On the Jib, you should have a roller furler. The jib haylard runs inside the jib luff. The haylard is tied off on the plastic jam cleat on th jib. After you go through the cleat run the line back up and tie it off so it all turns with the roller furler.

(Changed this post because my reading comprehension sucks)

We're talking 18 set-up.

"Chrome handle" is certainly the mast rotator.

"clips on the halyard" are the brummel hooks to easily remove the long "raising halyard" with the "tie-off" halyard (much shorter, that works in the cleat on the sail).

Are we talking H16 or H18 setup?

On the 18, the jib halyard cleats at the tack of the jib. There should be a small cleat riveted to the jib just above the grommet.

The "chrome handle" sounds like the mast rotator bar (it is connected by the bolt that also connects the lower diamond wires). This is used to limit the mast rotation. There is a line and cleat on the top of the boom near the goose neck end. The line goest from the boom, through the rotator bar and back to the cleat.
