Hydrofoil Sailboat Event - boats that fly

When: May 13 -14 2005
Hosted By: Bay View Boat Club, Kayak Connection
Location: San Francisco Bay / China Basin

This will be a open 2 day class C event for foiled sailboats to record speeds with GPS.
It will also provide foiled sailors a chance to get together and share their experience and expertise.
The goal is to get many sailors flying above the water in sailboats.

The location picked (China Basin) is ideally suited for foiled flight.
Winds come from the west through the South San Francisco / Diamond Heights cut (and out over the bay).
Seasonal winds can expect a steady 25 knots.
The seas are relatively calm.

Within site of the Giants Baseball park and MCovey Cove where Berry Bonds blasts homers into the water. The Bay
Bridge, with container and military ships passing under it. Cruising toward Oakland or other harbors south.

Parking and launching is free for boats with trailers.

Expecting Windrider Raves, Hobie Trifoiler, Moths, other foiled sailboats.

Friday get used to the course 12 - 4 PM sailing and flying .
6 PM dinner at the Bay View Boat Club will feature video clips of the day and spinning yarns with fellow sailors.

Saturday 12 - 4 PM sailing around the course with a GPS and other sailboats using staggered starts.
10 AM Captians meeting
6 PM Awards dinner at Bay View Boat Club. Who will have the fastest time recorded on their GPS?

Course Rules:
All cockpits need to be filled with people
3 heats 3 mile course
From club start line flag pole and orange buoy to N.E. to R/G bouy (Marked with S. C. south beach harbor),
a wide reach then 1 mile due south red buoy ( Pt poterero, Shipyard),
then back to the start finish line.
Boats will have a staggered start.
GPS required on board.

Costs: $100 per boat (2 people)

Saturday Racing hosted By the Bay View Boat Club
Saturday Dinner steaks and awards presentation

I hope a lot of vids come out of this. Do you think any of the sports channels will be carrying this stuff?

I need to find a job where someone pays me to just sail all the time. And then a wife and kids who won't mind. :wink:
