Post subject:  Hobie Nissan Tiger Video / Trench - Pitchpole!

Hobie Cat Europe has been working with Nissan over in Europe. They are doing some cross marketing. Nissan has a truck with a "Hobie" package. They are providing these trucks to some of the Tiger sailors over there and to Hobie Europe.

They had been waiting for the conditions to be right at the "Trench" over in France. A place used for speed trials. It was happening last week and they got the following video. This includes a dramatic pitch pole that looks very similar to the A class cat pitch posted here about a week ago. The boat goes airborne bows-and-all… after a big stuff! Actually looks like they may have hit bottom.

Someone needs to suggest this to Nissan here in the states. That would definitly be a selling point for me. Better yet, Jeep. Just seems like they go together

Scott,

I HAVE to ask; is that your set-up? Do you tow your Getaway with a Mini?

Fair winds,
Nick

Thats trench sailing!

Nowhere to turn when a puff hits from behind! The trench is narrow. You can see the wind coming in from behind. The water is boiling! Bam the puff hits!

I used to yank my 16 all over with a Fiat X 1/9. That's only abot 80 horses and about 12 feet. I stepped up with my next vehicle which was a Nissan Pulsar NX  Still, did not have the cajones that your mini has.

Go for it (and post photos!!) 8)

The guys flipping over are the Gosche brothers from Austria.
They were doing speed trials with the other Hobiecat Europe/Nissan teams.

Quote:
" The conditions were 30-40 knots windspeed achieving "ridiculous" 20.0 knots of boat speed.
He wrote, that due to the width of only 20 yards there were no real options to pick up speed. You simply could not bear off when you needed it, so the options were, sheet out when the gusts hit, or not to sheet out - but then we flipped."

Post subject:  Cool!

my kid calls that move "an endo", as in "end over end".

Do you know if there any record of what speed they eventually turned in? what is the speed record for a Hobie anyway?

You know how most trips to the hospital start?

They start with: "hey guys, watch this!"
