My original sails from 79 have a few pinholes and small small tears (biggest is less than 2") that I want to sew up. Any suggestions? |

Round the corners of any sail tape patch to help keep it from peeling up. |

Pin hole use sail tape small tear use a piece of Dacron, sew around the perimeter then an x in it, and use zig zag stitch only. |

Sail tape works but, if you have colored sails, the typically white tape looks rather tacky. Tear-Aid tape is clear and very durable but kinda pricey. There are two types. Make sure you get the one for dacron and not vinyl. |

Sail repair tape comes in many colors. And of course, white. SailRite.com has lots of goodies on their site. |

Has anyone tried this method? It looked interesting to me as I have no sewing skills, other than by hand and no real desire to learn. http://www.sailingtexas.com/chowtopatchasail.html |

Your sails are really old. Save your money on repairs and buy new sails. It will be the best money you have spent in a long time. You will say to yourself,"Wow, the boat really moves now and I don't worry about the sail ripping in half as I sail with friends, and the boat looks great, maybe it would look even better with a little wash..." I know times are tight, but this is sailing we are speaking of. With global warming, you won't need as much money to heat the home this winter so you might as well spend it on new sails. Also remember global warming means a longer sailing season so more time to use your new sails.." Happy New Year!!!!!!!!! |
