I was wondering if anyone has "created" a small trimaran using H14 hulls as amas, and a H16 hull as a center hull.? I would think that sailors being the ever creative bunch we are, and this boat being around 30 plus years, something like this might have been tried.

2 problems:

1) A 16's hull is asymmetric - flat on one side and curved on the other. It would have different performance on opposite tacks
2) A 16's hull doesn't have enough volume to be the center hull of a tri. It would sit very low in the water.

Oh, and
3) You'd need something to keep you from going sideways - a centerboard or a daggerboard.

thanks to both of you for the insight . A trifoiler does look interesting, even if it's out of my sailing ability for now. I'll keep on learning on the h14 until my ability improves.

I have seen several trimarans that look to be home built kits that use the 16 hulls as the amas. Tremelino Tri??? The info below was from another search.

How about the Mirage Adventure Island and Tandem Island? Not using H14 or 16 hulls, but both are Triamarans.

And both way better products have the MirageDrive built in!

if you were going to make one it would have to be made with a 18 hull as the center hull and a 14 or 16 for the sides.....i still like the idea of just 2 hulls though, my 2 have worked just fine for me

Thanks to all for your input. The new tandem adventure does look interesting, alot more of what i'm looking for, although the performance isn't there. It would certianly be beneficial for the cardio workout aspect though. Any ideas as to price range on them yet??
