Does any one know, what has been is the longest documented trip on a hobie ? Who? From where to where? When? Start/Finish Why is kinda an unnessary question. |

I thought there were a couple of crazy dudes who sailed across the Atlantic. Word was that they suffered horrible burn like conditions over their bodies due to the long term exposure of their skin to salt-water in their wetsuits. Anyone know? |

Hello, Where do you sail out of ? We (my son and I) have been out of Port Sheldon (Holland) 1 time last year, but we thought a trip up the coast of Lake Mich. say Holland to Grand Haven would be fun. Maybe if a few Hobies did somthing like that it would be great. At least a good day trip. We think it would be good to meet with any Hobie sailors for a sail. Neville, and Neville |

Holland is about a third of the way up Lake Michigan. We sailed out of port sheldon one time last year had to get towed out  , but sailed back in. 
We went that one time because the water was ccccold.  but later in the year (it was like May) the water should be warmer.

I read something somewhere about a couple of guys sailing from the southern tip of S. America to ANTARTICA on a Hobie 18. Now I saw Master and Commander, and they didn't look like they were having any fun on the huge frigate, so I imagine the trip on an 18 sucked worse. |

The guys that sailed to Antarctica did it on a custom made Hobie 21. I believe that the "team" changed on some of their expeditions, but they sailed from Florida to Antarctica over several years. They competed in last years Atlantic 1000,(Semp Toshiba) and then continued up the coast. I think they stopped in N.J. last year. Last I heard they were waiting to be towed through the Cape Cod Canal to continue their trip north. I wouldn't be surprised if they were in Canada by now! Real adventurers!

I've been to the Cape Cod canal! Fished right next to the train bridge in Bourne with my grandfather, who is from Monument Beach. |

Another Baja trip... In 1981 three guys from San Diego sailed out of Mission Bay and then down the length of the Baja Peninsula. They each sailed single handed. Two 16s and one 18. They had a support crew meet them at a few places along the way. The 18 broke up in surf on the last day, so they finished on the two 16s in Cabo San Lucas. About 1000 miles. One of the guys is Dan Mangus, our marketing director now. |

What about Beto Pandiani from Brazil, he went from Puerto Montt in Chile around Cape Horn up to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, aprox. 8.000 KM in 2 modified Hobie 21. www.rotaboreal.terra.com.br |
