Reminds me on how we launched the Tigers during the 2002 Alter Cup in Syracuse. We had a wood ramp off a seawall into the water in front Borio's Restaurant. Skipper on one side with tiller, crew on the other with main, rudders down but not locked. A gentle push down the ramp....the rest is history. Matt and Dom Struble actually sailed their Tiger back up the ramp and into the awaiting beach wheels after a race. It was a bit breezy and cool to watch. |

The first "launch" was done with two sets of beach wheels - and the second used only one. Right? That kinda explains why the second launch didn't seem quite as "controlled" (although I'm using that word lightly). |

The first launch was executed with one set but four wheels. It's a newer configuration of beach wheels. And yes, that would make for a more controlled launch. Also, the second launch was with a much bigger boat with only the two wheel set of wheels. That too, would make a difference. |

If you look at the video at 5-6 seconds, when the boat enters the water and the untied wheels "break away" (Side back off the boat), you can see the two sets are not attached in any way. Then again when they are in the water. Besides not having to balance the boat.. I can't see the advantage of 4 wheels, unless your ramp launching, but they why not just dunk the trailer.. Adding two more points of friction in the sand, would make for too much work! |

Gonna have to say off my computer a 2AM.

No problem.. As I said, i wasn't trying to nit pick, just posted my observation.. And I agree with the other poster. I can see many ways that could have gone horribly wrong! |
