Last weekend Jake, Mark, Adam and a few other Div 3 Sailors donated their time and boats to help out at the BAMA Multihull Expo. Jake had the FX rigged up and ready to take people out, and it just so happened that Brad Webb, the Bowman for BMW Oracle Racing was looking for a ride. They blasted around for about an hour in 20 knots of breeze. Nice one Jake!

On Saturday the 24th, the Bay Area Multihull Association put together a Multihull Expo hosted by Coyote Point Yacht Club, and sailors from around the Bay Area got a chance to try everything from a handful Ferriers to a Hobie Bravo. The weather was perfect and the wind piped up to around 20 on the outside of the breakwater. This type of ‘try a boat day’ event seems to be a growing trend, and marks the efforts of sailors trying to get n00bs out on the water.

There were a slew of various multihull designs, from cruiser to high performance beach cats and people of all ages ready to take them for a spin. Several well-known multihull designers were in attendance including Dick Newick, Jim Antrim and John Marples, as well as a famous multi sailor with some serious hardware in his team’s trophy room (see below).

Getting people out on the water is where it’s at! It just takes a couple of motivated people to get it all organized, a venue, and a shout out to your fleets. Looking forward to next year!
