Post subject: | halyard ring purpose |
There are many posts on the problems and solutions for hooking and unhooking halyard rings. But I can not find any information on the purpose of these rings. I know someone who just removed the ring. Why not just cleat the halyard? Thank you. |

The Ring holds the sail up when hooked to the hook at the top of the mast. You can not hold the sail all the way up with the halyard tension alone. In addition, using just the halyard and cleating it at the bottom causes more load on the mast. 2 x the compression load to maintain the sail up high on the mast. Hooking is not that hard using a few simple techniques... http://www.hobiecat.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=371 |
