Last year I purchased a new Hobie tramp. Over the winter, I didn't remove the trampoline and covered the boat with a large tarp. Generally, I always keep the boat covered when not in use since I have no covered storage area. When I uncovered the boat at the beginning of the season, my brand new trampoline was covered in mold. Lots of elbow grease finally removed it. Lately we have had lots of rain and the mold has returned on the tramp and the tops of the hull. The humidity in our area is very high and with the brutal summer sun I simply do not want to leave the boat uncovered. Can anyone recommend a product or solution that will kill the mold? I will certainly remove the tramp for the winter to keep the mold at bay, but I know it will be on the hulls again. Any ideas would be appreciated. Walter |

Personally I would not cover it. these things last decades in the sun- I have a 30 year old one almost never covered and still looks decent. But if you must, simply raise the cover a couple feet above the tramp to let the air flow. Use the boom as the main beam for the tarp. Keep it as high as you can at the sides too. Need airflow. The cover directly on top turns the moisture in the air to water on the tramp and locks it in. |

I use a 12 x 20 tarp and drape this over the boat lengthwise. It goes over the mast, so that keeps it above and off the tramp. Maybe I need to raise the up the rear of the tarp somehow. I really don't want to leave it exposed to the sun, but I suppose mold is no good either. Guess I need to build some sort of carport type shelter to park under. Is there any solution that can be sprayed on the tramp to kill the mold without harming the tramp? |
