Does anyone know of decent dry bags for my GPS, cell phone and VHF radio? I have a brand called "Dry Pak". They are clear plastic bags with a yellow hard plastic strip at the top with small levers to press the top closed. When we came back from sailing yesterday, both my GPS bag and the cell phone bag had a small amount of water in them. Now my cell phone is not working and needs to be replaced. It is not like I am floating them in the water. They are hanging of the boom and periodically get spashed with water. I could put all the electronics inside our big dry bag, but I need to press the GPS buttons to switch screens. Any ideas? Thanks! |

I think you can put the cell phone in a bowl filled with rice to get it to dry out. My old magellan GPS is waterproof and they say it will float. There is a cell phone that will actually work in water. I almost got one but decided I didn't need a phone with me. I searched and came up with Casio GZOne. I know that is not what you wanted but it may be the best route in the long run. |

I put my iPhone in a Pelican Micro Case. I can't use it in there, but I don't trust those bags for important stuff. The pelican case is a tough plastic case which is waterproof, dustproof, and crush proof (to a point, I'm sure, but I could easily stomp on it without worrying). It also has a pressure release valve that will automatically keep the pressure regulated inside. Not bad for something that cost me about 15 bucks Canadian. There are clear top ones that you could read a GPS on, but if you had to hit buttons, you'd have to open it. I've got a waterproof camera for my boat, and then anything that isn't waterproof that needs protection, (like my iPhone) gets put into a true waterproof case. My dry bags are for things that I'd like to keep dry, but don't worry if they get wet. Like spare clothes or something like that. |

I've got a pair of shorts that have two roomy removable waterproof pouches in the cargo pockets. I have used them for a few years now for my wallet, phone and keys, etc. I have gone boating and swimming with them and they have yet to fail. The shorts are called ClamUps! The pouches are 6.75" x 6". I don't know if your GPS will fit in the pouch? Thks, CP |
