Hey Guys,

Ok, I have a really dumb question. When using tapered sail battens, should the tapered end be towards the luff or the leach? I'm thinking they should probably be towards the luff: Putting the thinner section forward would allow the forward portion of the sail to curve more, moving the pocket of the sail forward, creating a nice foil shape.

I've never really had reason to monkey with the battens (other than tensioning/detensioning), but I replaced one this summer, along with all the luff and leach caps. I just put them back in the same way I took them out. Now that I think about it though, I think the tapered part was towards the leach, rather than the luff. Has my Dad had them installed backwards all these years, or is my thinking flawed?
