Hi all, this is my first post, sorry if it's in the wrong place but I couldn't find an off topic area. I am Adam, I live in Kingston Ontario in Canada and just got my first Hobie. I grew up racing Laser >>'s in the mid 90's, and since then "upgraded" to a Minuet 19 Bluenose design club racer. My old skipper got a DS22, and we thought we had it made. Now 15 years later we found ourselves going through youtube vids of dinghys and then found ourselves looking at hobies, we always loved the speed and style of the hobies and realized we had to get one. We found a project boat down the street and now we are official hobie owners! We will be repairing the seemingly ubiquitous foredeck soft spots and re-gelcoating over the winter, can't wait! BTW, I like posting pics, so you all can give me pointers along the way ![]() |

Sorry, I guess I could have been more specific, I got a hobie 16. I honestly never realized there were so many different hobies! Anyways, tonight we are taking the hulls off so we can clean up the tramp and re-rivet/jb-weld the frame to make it tight, and then get down to sanding the hulls. Can't wait! BTW, I was thinking of throwing the spinnaker from my old fireball on the new H16, would I need to rig up a backstay of some sort to help out the shrouds, or would they be fine? Thanks! |

When flying a spin on a beach cat the mainsail leech becomes the backstay. Therefore, the mainsail must aways be sheeted tight. Travel out the mainsheet blocks to better profile the main to the wind. Never fly the spin without the mainsail tight or your mast could bend or break if you have a comp tip. Welcome to the Hobie Way of Life!!! |
