What do you think of this block for a H18 will it do the job?
Is it worth the upgrade? and installing new tracks ?

It looks really nice. The one advantage I see in the Hobie factory setup is you can lock it in place without the need for a small line and a jam cleat or some other arrangment. Also, what is the load rating for the traveler setup? Compare that to the load rating of the factory setup and you will know if it is safe or not. If you race, make sure that setup is leagal.

Post subject:  Jib Traveler

This is not a good choice for the Jib Traveler. Maybe the main, but not the jib. It is overkill in strength. The track is too tall and would be uncomfortable. As noted... would require a traveler control line system.

Does this mean you would not upgrade an h16 with a traveler control line? Why?

Post subject:  Traveler control lines

We were talking about Hobie 18s here and a different traveler car (Harken) and track. The 18 uses very little track adjustment to make it worth while to add a line system, but would be required if the Harken car and track was used. There is no car-stop system on a harken car.

As far as 16s go...The H16 really works well using a jib traveler. You travel out every time you go down wind. You travel out in higher winds too.
