Awesome looking boat love the Green sails and Hulls. 18 sx wings on a fox with a bow spreader and extra bow support on 11 ft beams.
Good luck guys.

Now that is my definition of recreational sailing.

I rarely see any reference to the Hobie Fox anywhere. We don't even have a category for them on our Forum. Apparently the Fox didn't go over well in the US. Any ideas why not? I've got some theories: cost and the weak dollar, hard to compete with the Miracle 20 as far as having a dedicated cadre of class racers, and it doesn't appear that F20 has caught on here like F18 has. Those are my guesses, and I want to emphasize that they are nothing more than guesses and miscellaneous ramblings. I would think that Fox sales may have worked to the detriment of Miracle 20 sales. Does anybody have an idea how many Foxes were sold in the US? Any comments on the Fox? I find this boat intriguing and I really can't figure out why. Matt Miller, any official Hobie scoop on the Fox?

It's my opinion that Hobie USA currently focuses on more family recreational products. My last visit to http://www.hobiecat.com/sailing/ only shows 3 fiberglass boats, the 16, the FXone, and the WildCat. Hobie is in it to make $ just like any successful company. There simply are not enough people willing to spend the big bucks on the full race sailboats here in the USA. Europe is evidently a different story since they have the Tiger, the Fox, and whatever else.

Yep... lack of sales killed it here.

In the meantime, they reached the other side of the Mediterranean and missed their goal by a few hours : it took them 53 hours instead of the 48 hours.
Their plan now is to organize a yearly race across the med on Hobie Cat Fox...I assume only for heavily experienced sailors...

Thanks for the update, Nicolas.

I'm working with two Italians who are planning to improve on the Dakar-to-Gouadeloupe trans-Atlantic record for beach catamarans. Their custom-built catamaran looks even crazier than the one pictured above, although not nearly as colorful. :P

Are there any detailed stories on the net or a book, about long distance sailing in Hobies or smallish dinghies ?

I would like to know more about sleeping arrangements, reefing, high wind procedures, deceases, equipment etc. and pictures would be nice.

I have these

Nice one for sale here. Ran like a power boat with spin up.

Two sailors sailed a stock Hobie 18 with a spinnaker across the Northwest Passage. They did it in 3 summers, leaving the boat on the ice each year, then going back to it the following spring. http://www.helmdesign.com/polar-01.html for the story. I remember seeing a TV show about it a few years ago.
