Post subject: | Hobie contacts wanted for boat and ideas for Hobie touring |
Hello I would like to go sailing on a Hobie somehwere in the world mostly camping on the beach, cheaper hostels or hotels(out of season), first for a couple of months, maybe later for a longer time. As I am going solo, I guess a 16, 17, FxOne would be suitable. I am looking for contacts for borrowing/renting/buying a Hobie somewhere nice and reasonably warm. I am also looking for tips to where it would be interesting/possible to make such a tour. My own ideas are The Tuamotus in French Polynesia, Thailand, Australia, Greece etc. but it depends mostly on where I can find a boat. I might also go for a dinghy, if Hobie isn't possible. I would like ANY contact/lead/idea, as I will follow up on them myself and research the areas before deciding. Tips/links for buying a Hobie or dinghy on the net, are also appreciated. Deserted areas could also be ok, as I am used to travelling expedition style. I am planning to leave from feb. 2011 and onwards but could come for a few weeks before to arrange matters, before the big trip. Poul Denmark fleet333 pbh a pc.dk |

I haven't been there, but always remember seeing this site in Belize. It sounds beautiful, but I'm not sure how long they rent for. Prices might be too high, but the Euro is pretty strong right now. No harm in asking for a long period rental... http://www.underthesunbelize.com/1a1_sailing.html |

Hi Poul, We re in the process of setting up a business in the Bahamas hopefully starting summer 2011 using hobie getaways for camping expeditions through the exuma cays. Check em out on google earth or maps, we'll have a website up soon but I think you want to do it yourself anyway but have a look at the exumas. Close to florida so easy to get hobies and stunningly beautiful and pretty empty ![]() |

Poul, contact Samui Ocean Sports on the island of Ko Samui in Thailand, http://www.sailing-in-samui.com/index.html Ask for Kunta (he's German and his given name sounds a lot like Kunta Kente of "Roots" so he got stuck with it). I went on a Hobie Safari with him in 2003 using an 18 and a 21 with a 26 ft. chase boat, and exactly what you describe you want. I don't know if he still offers Hobie safaris so ask. Here's another outfit in Ko Samui, but I can't vouch for them: http://www.travel.reperages-thailand.co ... 10_en.html And another: http://samui-catamaran.com/en February is Thailand's high season, but it's worth it - highs in the 80's, little to no rain, and the food! The Thai food you get in the US doesn't come close to how good it is there. |

Any more tips ? I am going diving on Andaman Islands, India and probably Thailand afterwards in 6 weeks and will try to find a boat out there but any idea is welcome, as I will start the Hobie expedition later. |
