As everyone starts to get there boats out and go sailing again just a reminder to look up for power lines that may be new this year. Over the winter the power company may have added a new light or just ran new lines in a new location. Just take the 2 extra seconds to look around, have a great year sailing! Just attended our New South Wales (Australia) State F-18 Championship that was run in conjunction with the Darren Lowder Memorial Regatta at South West Rocks. This regatta was named after one of our club members whome in 1997, travelled up there with younger brother Trevor on thier NACRA 5.8. After a great regatta, they were eagar to clear the beach and wheeled there NACRA up to the car park where they did not notice overhead power lines. Both the boys had hold of the bridle, Trevor was thrown and hospitalised whilst Darren died on the spot, with unsuccesful attempts at resusitating him. Please, always look up first and if you notice any power line, please watch and warn others around them. |
