Post subject: | can't decide between H16 and Getaway |
hello. my family have an '03 Getaway and bought it a few months ago, however only my brother and I are sailors. A friend of mine is keen to buy a H16 with me, so we can race in local/state regattas. However, my parents say that i wouldnt use the Getaway as much if i bought a 16 and think we should sell the Getaway. What shall I do? Is there a way we can both be happy? |

If you don't get a H16, you won't know the fun you are missing, and you won't be able to race. If you sell you getaway, you will miss it. Keeping two 16 feet boat seems redundant, except if you have a lot of space. 2 different boats, 2 different purpose IMHO. |

Thankyou. I guess it's one or the other or maybe both as I could store it |

Go for both. I've sailed for many years starting with a H16 then going to a H17Sport. My wife used to sail with me, but over time I enjoyed soloing more and more (she is as head strong as I and was tired of being told what to do, plus there is a great joy in the solitude of soloing). Our answer was to get her her own boat. She started out with a Bravo (a great beginner boat), but after a couple years got tired of her friends on Turbo 14s zipping by her. So we upgraded her to a Weta 14 Trimaran. We considered a H14Turbo, but she is 5 foot nothing and about 8 Stones so righting a 14 could be an issue. The Weta rights easily regardless of crew weight (you just flood one of the pontoons and sit on it). So now we solo together. I've soloed both the getaway (a rental in Maui) and my H16, both boats are fun to sail, almost as fun as my H17Sport. ![]() Good sailing |

I agree with fastcat, both boats can be fun to sail, I have sailed a 16 since the 70's but switched to a getaway in 2006 as the 16 was getting to much for me to handle solo. I still like 16 as it is faster and more exciting, but I love to lean back against the back rest of my getaway and just cruse around. I with I could afford both boats and had enough room for them. |

Even if you grab the 16 and keep the Getaway, it would be awesome to have BOTH. I'm not quite sure of the finances in the situation, but I would do all that I could to have a casual craft and a race craft. Sounds terrific to me. |
