Hi,
I have just bought a Hobie and I would like to make a funny video with an onboard camera. My question is what camcorder do you use for youtube vids. Do you use a normal camcorder with cover or such pocket camcorders? i could imagine, that these pocket camcorders have some trouble when being moved in the waves....?

Greetings, Micha

I use the Kodak Playsport ZX3. It's waterproof to 10 feet and has very good HD video, and it's very inexpensive (Down to about $100 bucks online right now, in stores, it's probably about $125 to $150). There are a lot of people who think you need more waterproofing depth then that, but for anything I do, it's great.

It's about the size of a cell phone and VERY easy to use. It's on almost instantly and ready to record. Here's a picture:

If you have a bit more money to spend, you should take a good look at the GoPro camera's. The video quality on them is excellent, and they are built for the X-games crowd. That should mean that they're very durable, waterproof, and you can do anything on a boat with them without worries.

Here's the GoPro website.

I have the same Kodak waterproof camera and the value for money is excellent. I tested it during one week on the ski slopes and can't wait to attach it to my hobie cat mast or pylons to shoot some straight full speed straight lines on the ocean...
The good point on this camera is the remote control (cheap accessory : 19€ here in Europe) so you can attach securely the camera somewhere and keep the control from the remote.

Geat video!
Great quality!
Where, and how, did you mount the camera?
Can you mount this camera to your helmet while skiing and biking?

@lluistar : Great vidéo !
And I really love the way you have set up the camera, I have to work on the same setup. Could you please post a picture of the way you mounted the camera at the bridles ?

I bought the Kodak Playsport its a great camera the video is amazing 720/60fps but mounting it on the boat is tricky.

bottom line: another vote for the gopro
