Need your opinion and expertise: Is there a real need to insure a sailboat and trailer? I currently have insurance for my Getaway and trailer but will expire this June. Since I am currently laid off from work I am reevaluating all my expenses. If you do have insurance, where can I go for the best value? My Nationwide policy runs about $120.00 per year (Liability each accident $300K, medical pymts $1k, damage to my vehicle w/comp and collision $250.00 deductible, personal effects $1k). Thank you all in advance for your input! Bob S. |

I pay $76 with All State. I'm a believer in the adage, "An ounce of prevention saves a pound of cure." |

the amount the boat and trailer cost me on my homeowner's policy is small, compared to its cost without them. peace of mind and cheap insurance. since the boat get trailered on public roads, I'd be more concerned the trailer was covered. since you're protected in the event the trailer causes damage or hurt to someone. |

I don't remember what my liability is, $250k or $300k. Boat is insured for$24k, and the trailer is insured for another $6k, both are agreed to value through Progressive. I just paid the premium, it was something like $170 for the year. I honestly don't remember. |

Yes, and it really paid off when my boat flipped on the beach. Over $2,500.00 in parts alone. |

My homeowners policy covers my boats for liability, even covers me while racing! When my 16 got struck by lightning I turned it in and they covered it. Saved me a ton of money although I did have a $500 deductable. All I'm saying is check your homeowners policy.. you might already be covered. |

I got a policy from Foremost thru my Farmers agent for $104 a year my boats only covered for $2500 but liability is 100,000/50,000 on me and uninsured boaters plus lowering the deductable from $500 to $250 only cost $2 more a year and changing the medical payments to $5000 did not change the price at all so ask plenty of questions and toy with the coverages. You can go do the online quote from progressive and it will let you tinker with numbers |

Nope, but I did not pay enough for my old boat to justify insuring it. I'll bite the bullet if something happens. As far as the trailer is concerned, it's covered under the tow vehicle's insurance when being towed as far as liability is concerned. I don't insure it for theft or vandalism, same reason as the boat, it's too old and not worth enough money to bother. |

It sure helped when I tore my sails. They replaced them--$1300 |

State Farm at $70 a year. Bought me a new main, spin pole and paid off the Fox when it blew up. Its more than worth it. Most homeowners policies offer some coverage for any non-motorized craft. State Farm HO policy gave me $1k for a boat that was t-boned racing I did not have insured and paid to repair the other boat, as I was found at fault. |
