Post subject:  Hobie footage

Hi, I recently purchased a used 18. I haven't sailed for about 20 years, and would like to get my kids excited about the sport. Can anyone refer me to some good sailing footage online.

Not sure about online, but I would get the Hobie Cat Sailing book by jake grubb, offered on ebay or amazon often for about 10 to 20 bucks, alot on the 18 with great pics. A must have coffee table book and pretty good on rigging for a newbie. Wecome on, mate!!!

Bearcats has some pretty good footage, as far as on-line footage goes. Try this one for starters. View it first. You don't want to scare them.

If you have a VCR (VHS) you may want to invest in the video Sharing the Wind.

The footage is older, but still very good.

Post subject:  More video

There are a few esential modern Tiger videos linked to the Surf City My Space (Tiger Surfing, Tiger Pitchpole) as well as some super raw footage of Hobie 20 surfing (gas for skiboats is too pricy!!) in Santa Cruz at: www.myspace.com/surfcityracing
Most of the videos will come up on the home page, but if you want to see a junky version of a H 16 falling off of a van go to "Videos".
More to come: Hobie 16 surfing at 3rd reef Steamers (15'+ waves). And Tiger sailing in the SF bay pushed over by helocopter prop wash. Good stuff! Stay tuned.
Enjoy!

Here are some downloadable links to the tiger surfing video,(EXCELLENT!!) and another to the beachcats download videos, I hope I do not get in trouble for posting the beachcats one, but it is only in reference to the videos.
They will take a while to download if you have dial up, so be prepared to wait.

Trouble?

Unlike some other catamaran sailor sites, we do not scold you for linking away from Hobie Cats forums for informational purpose. This is all about enjoying Hobie Cat sailing. The more information the better.

We would discourage non-Hobie commercial advertising though...

I remember seeing a Hobie video at a boat show in the 1970's. It was how Hobie Alter developed the 16. The best shots were the stress tests done by stacking the Hobie in the surf and 4 gorillas trapezing in a gale. Does anyone else remember this video and is there a way to see it again :?:

You can see that shot of the R&D team sailing a Hobie 16 on the Hobie History video. Dealers have in on DVD.

Hobie 16 videos? There are a bunch from the Mexico Worlds in 04.

Post subject:  awesome video

Thanks Jay, I love it. What a rush that would be, makes me wish I had gone out in the huge winds we had the other day instead of being cautious. Nah, with my lack of experience and it being such a tiny lake I probably would have done some serious damage to the boat.......or me. Have you much cat experience?? What have you sailed previously?

Also try youtube.com and search for hobie cat. Not many actual hobies but some sweet cat sailing.
