I just purchased an old Reynolds 21. One of the previous owners replaced the mast with a Hobie 18 mast. I'm new to the sport and know enough to get wet, very wet. I was trying to find an old Hobie 21SC when I found this boat. Little wider with the ability to get out of the weather in the hulls, with a lot of storage space, great for weekend stuff. Only drawback is having to dismantle it it to tow. After looking at how its done it will be easier with a few changes to the trailer that needs to be worked over anyway.

Just wondering if I'm in the right place for information or is this a Hobie only forum?

diego,
this place will give you all you want to know about using/fixing/upgrading your Hobie 18 mast/rig, perhaps nothing about a Reynolds. it is also a sailing forum. there's lots in common with catamaran sailors. doesn't hurt to ask sailing questions.

All the standing rigging I have seen on any sailboat has always been tight. All the rigging on this boat was loose and I was told by the seller it should be slack on the cats. Is there a reason for this. Also where can I find out how the mast for a H-18 is set up? Some things just don't look right on this mast.

Incorrect... Rigging should be tight on all but the H14 and maybe the Wave.

Figured as much. I was finally able to get everything off the boat yesterday so I can lift the hulls off the trailer to start repairs. I noticed towards the top of the mast there looks like a notch cut out in the side of the sailtrac. What is this for. My brother told me that when we raised the sails the other day the top two came out of this cutout.

Where is the best place to download instructions for the mast set up for the H-18 mast?

Found it, but there were more than just the mast chenged. Also wish I had seen the SC 21 before I bought the reynolds.
