Someone bedded the beams down to the hulls on my Hobie Tiger with 3M 5200 I have been trying to get one side loose for over a week I have tried anti-bond 2015 and it broke loose the 5200 under the beam with help from a tapping a metal strap under it but now I cannot get the 5200 loose from the sides I tried piano wire, wood wedges, car jack under the beam to try force, heat gun inside the beam but the 5200 will not let free. Im am too far now to turn back it has to come off so can someone HELP ME PLEASE before I take a chainsaw to it and the previous owner who did it!!!

Can you can get to it with a putty knife? If so, heat it with a torch and wedge it in and soften the 5200...repeat.

The music wire is .015 and barely fits in the space. Im thinking its going to require heat but very nervous about using a torch around fiberglass.

I understand, I meant heat the puddy knife with the torch, then wedge that in the gap.

Why don't you try a heat gun first before the blowtorch.

When 3M says 5200 is permanent, they mean it. Good luck.

I agree they should raise the price on this stuff so people will only use it when they really need it.

Is there any chemicals you can use? Have you called anyone at 3M? Chainsaw is pretty funny, I bet the guy that sold you that boat would (censored) himself if you pulled up with one!

2. Maybe you could use a foam cutter, that is using a wire that is heated by electricity

Go to napa and get the bolt remover called freeze off or go to radio shack and get the can air and freeze it then tap on it with a hammer until it comes off. Worth a shot. I've done that with other things and have had good luck.

A couple of things I would try.

Remove all the bolts obviously, (had to say it :lol:), then set one corner of the boat higher than the other three so you are racking the whole mess a bit.

I'd start with the front crossbar, and using the dolphin striker try to twist it the beam out of the beam sockets. Steady pressure is what your looking for here. Once you get the front beam out you should be able to pop the back beam just by twisting the hulls vertically. Get one corner free, bolt it back in, and then twist the other one out.

My FXone was siliconed together, I don't think it was 5200 though, it still took a fair amount of banging/twisting to get it free.

Thanks for the tips I got tired of jacking with it and dropped it off at a local fiberglass shop they said heat will work and if he damages the gelcoat they will fix it for 2 hours of labor @ $85 I have spent a week in my garage in 100+ temps working on it so that price seems like a bargain. Careful where you use 5200!!!

I started it to remove the old tramp lacing strip and once I broke the the 5200 loose from under the beam with a scraper & Anti-bond 2015 that was the point of no return. The other option would have been to retrofit to the new style tramp and in hindsight the retrofit would of been less work and probably cost less.
