. . . because it's got the wrong sticker on the side? ![]() Yesterday was seriously windy following the front that went through Tuesday. They shouldn't have been out there alone without a radio. They're really lucky. |

If you can not self rescue, you have no buisness going out. Making sure your mast is sealed is part of being able to self rescue. ![]() |

Yes, they were lucky....they were also well prepared with cold weather gear, AND they had filed a 'sailing plan.' It was their non-arrival which triggered the call to Search and Rescue. I am still a little puzzled why a capsize or turtling would 'fill the boat'....and make it incapable of being righted. Unless of course, (as above) it was a leaky mast. Matt B, where is that link to your adventure in SF at the H17 Nationals? Was the boat damaged? There may be more to this story....Karen-Ann, can you get us some scoop? Glad everything ended well.....that front went through here at lunch time, and I could not leave the office to go sailing.....next time... |

Link to CBC TV interview..... http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/story/2011/08/11/sailing-lake-rescue.html student got trapped under the tramp for a minute....then the mast filled with water. They even demasted and tried to right the Nacra 500....without success. C-130 Search & Rescue flew over and spotted them, and directed the marine unit of the Police to pick them up....everyone safe, which is good. |
