Post subject:  new boat questions

I'm new to sailing, and want to buy a catamaran to learn to sail with.

I am seriously considering buying http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... AMEWA%3AIT and wanted to get everyones opinions.
What questions should I ask the seller to make sure there is nothing wrong with it etc?

Again, I know almost nothing about sailing, so dont assume I've asked the question, even if it's the simplest Smile

Please try to let me know asap!
Also, what do you guys think its worth, and do yall think it is good?

It looks to be in great shape. There's not really much to ask the seller - you need to see it in person. Feel the hulls for soft spots. Any dings can be fixed - soft spots can, too - but it's a pain.

The EPO rudders alone are worth $200 if they're in decent shape.

The hull stripes aren't faded out, which is a good sign - it hasn't been sitting in the Texas sun for 20 years.

The hatch covers in back are probably there for a reason: wing tube leaks / repairs.

I wouldn't pay much more than $2K for it - but then again, I'm looking at it as a racer. I'd have to replace the sail and all the rigging.

I'm not sure that a 17 should be your first boat. They can be difficult to tack (even with the jib). A Hobie Wave or Getaway is an indestructible boat that's easy to sail. They cost a lot more, but they have been holding their resale value pretty well.
