Post subject:  Installing Hot Stick Grip

I just bought a new 12" soft grip for my hiking stick and holy crap. I think I just met my master. I cannot find anything on how to install it or what adhesive/motor oil to use to get it on and keep it on. I have used hair spray, silicone, lithium grease and even tried to inflate it with compressed air while pushing it on. I tried also to heat it up in hot water.

Suggestions please!

Sounds like you bought the grip for the stock tiller (which has a much smaller diameter) instead of the grip for the Hot Stick.

Post subject:  If you want it to be fixed fixed use epoxy resin but!!!!!!!!

Dont do like i did and let resin get in the hot stick moving tube parts...as it has blocked the extention being smooth

if you follow these simple instructions you should be ok...

1- Only brush resin on the hot stick...not on the inside of the soft grip

2- During the hole process keep the hot stick extended to the max...

3- Let dry 24hours with the hot stick in a vertical position with the soft grip at the bottom, to avoid any possible resin excess rolling down the inside of the hot stick

The bond is perfect, but you have to be careful to not mess it up as i did...
Now i need to take the hot stick appart...

Here is the post if you did not find it...http://www.hobiecat.com/community/viewtopic.php?t=3830

I´ll also use this post to ask a question about my related problem...

The outer comes off the pinned end. You will have to take off the outer sleeve (pinned and glued) and the grip on the other end, then it will come off. This will allow you to clean off the inner part, but the outer part may be more problematic.

How can I make glued outer sleeve come off? Heat, brute force
Both :)???

Also is the outer sleeve completely cilindrical?? or does it have a special inner shape??
I´m asking this in case I break it , I wanted to know if I could replace it with a small bit of pvc tubing...
Thanks
