Post subject: | Used cats in MD? |
Hey, my maiden post! I've owned boats all my life. Mostly power, 2 of them sail. Of the sail, my first was a penquin then a Sol Cat which was a blast (Haven't owned a sailboat since I sold the Sol Cat in '88). Well, I'm ready to get back into sailing since I'm growing tired of putting in and feeding 460 Fords in my jetboat (For sale BTW) and I miss those care-free sails on the Chesapeake. This time I would prefer a Hobie. I'm REALLY looking hard around the Pasadena MD area for a boat/trailer in good shape. I have a few grand (even more if I sell the jetboat), but if I find a Hobie at the right price...I'm there. Thinking about checking out Backyard boats since I've seen the name pop up around here. From reading this site the Getaway seems to stand out for what I want, but the other models 16' and over would be fine at the right price...It would be for me and my wife mainly, but I would like some extra capacity for another couple occasionally. So if anyone has any leads on a nice set up at a good price, I sure would appreciate it. I've seen an advertisment for a 2002 Getaway and trailer for $6,250. Said it was used 3 or 5 times. Is this a good price? It's more than double what I was planning to spend but I'm entertaining the idea. |

I work with Backyard Boats occasionally when they need an extra hand. They are a great resource for Hobie in this area. As far as other boats for sale in Pasadena, I know of one that I think is still for sale. It's an older H16 on a trailer. It's off Solley road a fwe hundred feet norht of Mountian Road. I see it on my way to work. I have no more info on it than that. I would guess he is selling it for around $1000. When you decide on a boat you like, I would be glad to help you take a look at it. Please feel free to contact me at Hobienick at gmail dot com. Good luck in your search! |

Thanks Nick! I'll check out that boat on Solley Rd. today! I'll also keep you informed on the developments that are sure to happen. I got the boat bug bad right now...it always gets me in trouble. |

I stopped by and looked at that Hobie on Solley Rd. It's a little rough, but it might have possibilities. I called the number on the "FOR SALE" sign, of course the woman who answered the phone knew nothing about it except that it was her nephews and that I should call back when her husband would be home after 6:30PM since he knew about the boat. So I called at 7:30PM giving him time to settle in after work. I think instead I ended up giving him time to dive into a bottle of burbon! He was either plastered or stupid and rude. Here is how the call went: -Hi, I'm calling about the Hobie for sale... -Yea? -Can you tell me a little about it? -Whats to tell? It's a boat! There is 2 pontoons, canvas, and ahhh...you sit on it! I mean what else is there? (Loud and slurring). -What year is it? -I...I don't know! -Well thanks for the information, good-bye. So either this guy was drunk or had some deep mental issues. Seeing the huge "NO TRESPASSING" sign and all the junk around the yard, it could be either or maybe both. That poor nephew will never get that boat sold with a blithering idiot like that trying to sell it for him. I don't know, maybe I'll give it some time and revisit it in a few days. If the sails are in good shape it might be worth a shot. They haven't seen me in person so I'll just act like I stumbled across it. If stupidity runs in the family, maybe I can convince them to pay ME to take it away! ![]() I'd rather spend a little more and get something newer, but it IS a possibility. |

I am looking for $2000. you can see the wings and boat here http://www.thebeachcats.com/modules.php ... _album.php or wings at www.sitnsail.com I clicked on it and saw some cose-ups of the wings. 1 on a yellow cat and 1 on a blue cat. I couldn't see a whole picture of either boat. Am I doing something wrong? Anyway, does your cat have a trailer? BTW I did A LOT of sailing on that upper Assawoman in an old wooden Penquin as a kid (Late '70s) when my Parents had a place at Trasure Beach on Rt. 54. I still go down to O.C. through out the year. ESPECIALLY on "Hot Rod Weekend". If you see a Yellow Manx type beach buggy with REALLY wide rear tires, 4 individual exhaust pipes, and a "Rat Fink" head on the rear view mirror, thats me. |

Looks interesting. I would like to see a pic or 2. BUT PLEASE just 1 or 2. My home computer is on the phone line which means it's S-L-O-W!!! Whats her history? Are there any issues with it? Those wings are someting new to me but look like a great idea! (I've been out of the sailing scene for 17 years). |

No issues with the boat but I mentioned to my wife that I might sell it and buy a Flying Scott and she was less than thrilled. Soooo, the Hobie stays in the family. sorry. |

No problem...Gotta keep them wives happy!....Thats why I'm looking at regular 16's more than the Getaway's. But who knows. As stated above I got the boat bug bad right now. I SHOULD wait till I sell the Jetboat and have more to spend, but I suffer from "devine discontent" (I always want more and NOW!). |
