I need something on the end of my hiking stick. I'd like to have a tennis ball or something that would be easier to hold on to rather than just a bare end. Does anybody have any ideas how to attach a tennis ball...other than the obvious red neck way...duct tape? What is everybody using? My hiking stick is a few yrs old from Murrays. The end is just gone. Aluminum. Thanks. |

Contact cement. But a tennis ball doesn't have a lot of gluing surface because it's hollow, so it won't stay on for long. The "traditional" ball-shaped end is made of cork. Personally, I prefer the foam sleeve - it doesn't catch on things and it fits my hand better. Both are available from Murray's - http://www.murrays.com/mm5/merchant.mvc ... re_Code=MS Foam sleeve is only $5; cork is $16.50 Use hairspray to put the sleeve on - it acts as a lubricant / solvent glue. Spray into the sleeve, then quickly slide it on. |

If it is the aluminum adjustable stick, I used a Mountain Bike Grip......... Works great, I just need a harness to trap out far enough to use it! |

I have the adjustable hiking stick and used a small rubber ball I had from a key chain. It is smaller than a tennis ball but still gives you a little something to hold onto on the end. I just hollowed it out and taped it up with hockey grip tape. That stuff works great and has a good feel to it and is waterproof, much better than duct tape. |

Thanks for the ideas. I was thinking of trying some pipe insulation...? Might not last, but is cheap and easy to replace. |

I use a rubber chair leg end from Lowes or Home Depot fits great very cheap easily replaceable and much safer than having a blunt end It even feels good in the hand The other issue is that sooner or later the metal hiking stick will get bent or broken a Hobie hot stick is the real way to go Former Hobie Admiral Gary |
