Hi guys/gals
I ordered some parts and accessories for my 18 in late june, and even after several contacts with the dealer (authorized) I still am without parts, I should say that I did recieve the new main halyard. While it hasn't kept me off of the water, I really wanted to have my boat running smooth for the season which is now all but over. They tell me the parts have been ordered from Hobie, does anyone else have trouble getting parts?

My local dealer usually has what I need on hand. If not then I use Murrays. Hobie is really good about getting things out but on a discontinued product I think service will only get worse as they no longer maintain inventory. What are you looking for? I have several parts boats, maybe I can help!

If Hobie can't supply the parts go to Murray's and download their catalog. Also take a look at Cat Sailor at http://store.catsailor.com/tek9.asp?pg=products .

I found that the Hobie dealer in Des Moines, IA, Jim's Sailing Center, carries an excellent inventory on the H-18, and has very deep knowledge of the H-18. I asked a ton of questions this year on the new-to-me 18SX, and he patiently and thoroughly answered them. He gets my parts business, and has earned it.

I've had great service from Brian Cunningham at www.mariner-sails.com. Found me parts for my old 21SE that the folks at Hobie couldn't find.

Thanks for the response. I was going through some previous posts, and noticed a thread regarding travellers and wrong size balls and cylinders. A ball/cylinder set was one of the items I have on order, but it sounds like that should have been released a while ago by Hobie according to Matt's reply. The other somewhat pressing issue I have is with one of my jib blocks, my H18 has the ratcheting block and I have already had it apart twice to repair the inner workings. It has failed again and just needs to be retired/replaced.
NCMBM, do you think you might have what I need? I did see quite a selection of blocks in the online catalogues I have perused but don't see the original which is what I would like. I guess If I must get a mismatch it won't matter much.

Yes... The new 18 traveler bearings are available. It took quite awhile because there was a redesign (old vendor "lost" the mold). On the new set, both bearings are cylindrical.

As for the jib ratcheting block - Hobie P/N 60330041, $157.40. I don't have one and don't know about availability. The block is just a ratcheting single with cam and becket. Probably like a Harken 188 (about $125). The trick would be getting it attached to your slide. I don't think it's rocket science, but I can't be positive since I don't have one to play with.

I do appreciate the compliment, but can't take all the credit. My boss is a whiz at Hobie parts. My skill is at cranking data and working online. I can't promise that I'm always going to be spot on. It just happens to be a slow time of the year for us since all the kids are recently back in school.

And technically speaking, I haven't gotten you the parts yet. They're still somewhere between me and Oceanside.

David,
I have several attached to the slide and one which is loose. If you are considering upgrading to the harken blocks Murrays has a replacement slide that the new blocks can attach to with a shackle. If you want an original Seaway make me an offer. I have no idea what they are worth. :wink:
