I need to improve my knowledge of the Hobiecat line as I am very confused. I can easily identify the H-14/14T, 16, 17 and 18/18SX...but after that I'm lost. I think the Hobie Bravo is Hobie Europes version of the 15.5 for the resort market, and the Tiger is the Euro version of the F18...right? Where do the Fox, Miracle, H-21 [Numerous Varieties] fit in?. I sailed a Hobie Europe 16 in the Carribbean a couple years ago. All this stuff is neat to know for a Hobie-phile! Is there a spreadsheet that has the basics: Manufacturing company (Hobie, Hobie Coleman, Hobie Europe, Hobie Aussie), model name, length, target market (resort, serious racing, recreational/regatta racing) , Hobie wing type availability(magnum, SX, names of other wings, i.e. Getaway), years of production, stock jib/spinnaker (y/n). I'd find that very helpful. Thanks. |

Here is a short history... Hobie USA is the original Hobie company. Up to the mid 80's we designed and built the H14, 16, 17, 18, 21 along with many other less known products like the 3.5, Mono Cat and many monohulls, Powerskiff etc. Coleman built Hobie Europe to build the same (some or all) products over there. Any other manufacturer (Australia, Brazil, South Africa, Mexico) were licensed to build identical product. When Coleman sold Hobie Cat in the late 80's Hobie Cat Europe was sold as a seperate company and began to design and build their own products. Hobie Cat Australia is now owned by Hobie Cat USA and builds product we design. They only build H16s, 17s and use to build 18s. After the mid 80's (the 14, 16, 17, 18 and 21SE days) everything changed. Then Hobie Cat USA designed the Hobie 20 Miracle, 21 Sport Cruiser, Wave, Getaway, Bravo. The 18SX was a Euro designed "Formula 18" rig that we added wings to. Hobie Cat Europe did the Tiger (yes F18), FX One, Fox and all the other boats they build. Most we don't market here. |

The 20 is the largest boat Hobie makes right now. Incidentally, the 21SC page is still up: http://www.hobiecat.com/sailing/models_21sc.html It's linked to from the Tiger page - looks like the webmaster needs to update the sidebar on that page ![]() |

It looks like the 15.5 is a 16ft version of the Hobie Dragoon (13ft Rounded). It looks nothing like the Bravo, as the Bravo is more like the old Monocat, where the Dragoon and 15.5 are true cats (With a Wave like built in fin), and a SPINNAKER ![]() Those looks like really nice boats for a Jr. Program. It doesn't say, but it looks like both the Dragoon and 15.5 are standard Fiberglass hulls, and not rotomolded. |
