Post subject:  Genesis trailers
Anyone have any experience with Genesis Trailers? They are made in Michigan. They appear very sturdy and they come with flat cradles and 12" tires.

The crossbars look like they are too close together for anything other than maybe a Wave.

It may just be the angle. My dealer is using this trailer with a 16 and a getaway. I'll check though.

Here's another picture that I found on the internet. These look like about the right spacing right? The one I'm looking at has cradles.

You will like the galvanized trailer better then painted steel for sure. Aluminium trailer would be my first choice, which I think there are made in Ohio..... :)

I would gladly take a used aluminum over a new galvanized. But there just aren't any used Trailex trailers for sale out there.

Just putting this out there for everyone...I will be driving from Indianapolis to Philadelphia in the coming weeks. I would be willing to drive a few hours out of my way to get a trailex in good shape.

I have an aluminum trailer thats about 15 years old , would have to look to see who made it but I can tell its not going to last as long as my galvanized trailer, its 35 years old and still in great shape .The aluminum one never felt a stiff and is showing some fatigue, it is lighter and nice to move around but I would probably take a galvanized one , Just My 2 cents.

I bought my aluminum Trailex new in 1979 for my H16. Converted it to hold my new H18 in '88. Other than replacing the lighting system, springs & tires and some maintenance like new bearings and a strip/repaint of the axle, it is in fine shape and still going strong. At the time it cost $200 more than galvanized steel, but worth every penny in longevity.

I have a Genesis trailer for my Getaway and have no complaints. I bought it last year, so I wouldn't be able to fill you in on longevity. I had to adjust the flat cradle pads when I first started towing the Getaway, it kept sliding off while we were in motion. Once adjusted, it worked great. At the end of the season I had to replace the right side taillight, water got into the light enclosure and wouldn't drain, I noticed the gasket was installed wrong, fix it, worked good after that. Make sure you get the front wheel with adjustable jack if you plan on pushing the trailer around, it saves you from lifting the trailer up from the front hitch bar. Also, get 2 straps to keep the hulls secured to the trailer, one near the bow, one near the stern. Hope this helps.

I have a Genesis galvanized trailer for my Getaway. I think it's a great trailer. I expect it's heavier than an aluminum trailer, but I have no problem towing with a diesel Jetta or moving it around by hand.
I have a toy box, spare tire, and beach wheels stowed on it. Everything fits.
The only problem I had was a couple of months after I bought it, I found one of the bolts that holds the leaf spring to the trailer had come almost all the way out. The other bolts had lock nuts on them, so I don't know if the nut was never installed, or somehow came off. I put a new bolt and locknut on, and went around and made sure all the other bolts were tight. If it had come out while I was towing, I don't know how bad it might have been, but since it was the front one, it could have been very bad indeed!

Many aluminum trailers are underbuilt. I can't be build the same way and just swapping out one material for the other, most of the time you've got to almost double the size of the material to get the same strength.

I wouldn't buy anything other than an aluminum trailer. No corrosion, stiffer and lighter.

I bought an aluminum enclosed trailer last year, saved almost 1k pounds going that route over steel.

I found a Trailex SUT-350-EP here locally. It's made for a Playcat but might work for a 16. I'll call Trailex in the morning unless you guys can confirm that it definitely does not work for some reason.

I know I'd be pushing the weight limit once I put on a sailbox. Is it a matter of adding another leaf to the springs or am I missing something else that will make it unusable for a 16?

Probably not worth messing with, but just thought I would check.
