![]() Talking H16 Thought about buying some 5/8 tube online and making my own with hardware I have around, but even here, http://www.carbonfibertubeshop.com/small%20tubing.html (Would need one SM6230F $39.75 and one SM6260F $69.50... Plus a couple sleeves at 10 bucks a pop) It seems the cost of buying the tube, a bit of epoxy, ect is closing in fast on just buying a carbon tiller extension which is ready to go... Although I am considering building one out of some Hockey sticks.. ![]() Building one allows me to more easily have parts ready to fix it if I break it (which I probably will) but with the cost seemingly to close in pretty quick on a 98" Harken "battlestick"... I am thinking about the value of time.. Which commercially available sticks are the "best"? Or any thoughts from ya'll on what you have like and what you have not. I am mainly looking for light weight (tacking maneuvers) and as stiff as possible to give me all the feel I can have on the tiller. |

Buy 3 of the 60" tubes, cut one in half, then glue the short pieces to the long pieces with the sleeves. Then you have two tillers. |

Remember there is a very good chance that you will break one in a breeze if you get a little outta control. But no one here does that!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I have a kevlar stick that came with my boat. It's pretty ugly because it hasn't been painted but very light and strong. |

Pretty much the answer I expected... This look like the right stuff? http://www.rockwestcomposites.com/products/45553 Should be able to build them for just under 100 a pop using hardware from old fiberglass sticks.. Do I want 5/8 OD or ID? (So now I'll just need to tape the extra one under the tiller crossbar for quick change outs WHEN I break em... ![]() |
