Does anyone know of an affordable wheel replacement for my Cat Trax...? I have the old vulcanized rubber tires and do not want to shell out $260+ for a new pair. Thanks

My Cat Trax tires are 25 years old and still look nearly new...

so maybe those $260 tires are worth it? 8)

You may want to consider ordering replacement tubes through Cat Sailor. Check this out: http://www.onlinemarinestore.com/store/ ... category=0. I ordered some a couple of years ago and they're working great.

MVD, he won't be able to use the tubes if he has the old vulcanized rims. The tubes only work on the newer style rims I think.

bought my rubber tire cat trax in 1988 still working well but tires showing some dry rot, I fear that they will fail at the annual Edisto Beach SC trip this summer. A Hobie 21SE is a load of 600 lbs or so and is a impossible load on soft sand, Discount Tire said they will order some tires and tubes and install. No worries for another 25 years.
Saw a product on tv made by Miricle Wipe for use on tires which is supposed to protect from UV and dry rot plus it makes the tire shine. Might give it a try

Gary,
Could you tell me what your tire store orders you?

You are looking for a 21-12.00-8 for standard size beach wheels. NANCO or NANKUNG Tires is the only remaining maker. I got my first replacement tire for about $45.a few years ago. More recently I paid a bit over $50. Tires Unlimited has them for $68 each and Cedar Rapids Tire has them for $57 ea. Its the N800 Slick.

Lots of fun getting them to inflate on the rim. I used a ratchet strap and an extra set of hands.

Looks like they may not sell only the rims http://www.floridasailcraft.com/CatAccesories.htm

The rims are standard ATV rims and the hole in the rim should match the size bar/tube. They use large aluminum and plastic washers and cotter pins to hold the rims in the right locations.
