I found an old Aquaterra brand sail box for my trailer. Anyone else seen this brand? Looks like the exact design as the current Hobie box. Maybe Hobie bought it from them?

Matt- it's missing the top hatch cover. Can I order one from my dealer?

I also have an "Aquaterra" brand sail box with a black hinged top hatch cover.

But, just like your second photo, my end cap was missing when I bought the used trailer 7 years ago.

Zach, if you come across any end caps, I might be interested if they are not too expensive.

I actually have the end cap. Just not the top hatch.

I should be able to custom fabricate those missing parts out of Aluminum if there is no factory parts available. I will get with Zach and measure this sail box. :)

Thanks Matt. Is it the same size as this Aquaterra lid? Any chance I can get dimensions?

Same mold... same size.

After some peeling and scrubbing, this old toy box looks like new! I have a lid on order from my local Hobie dealer.

And I used cling wrap and clear tape to cover up the lid until the lid comes in.

Now my plan is to put on weather stripping and cut some decals and stripes for it.

This new lid doesn't have the same curve as my box. I wonder if the box has sagged a little over time. Even with weather stripping there is a large gap.

I'm going to play around with bending the lid a little and tightening the bungee.

Zach,

The lid opening's curve should not have changed much from sagging since it is so close to the vertical end section, which is a rigid curve.

On my black lid, the lid's curve matches that of the rigid curve of the vertical end section (see the photo from my May 25th posting).

Your new white lid does not look like my original Aquaterra lid.

Right now it isn't water tight at all. I looked in after it rained and found my sails sitting in water. That's even with weather stripping. The gap is just too large to fill with weather stripping.

Back to the drawing board. I'm thinking I need some kind of rubber flange around the outside to encourage the water to run off the lid and down the side of the box instead of off the lid and into the box.

Matt -
Is it possible to get the end cap for a Hobie (or AquaTerra) Toy Box?

I see your post above for the part number for the front hatch cover. How about the end cap?

(Murrays says no. Local Hobie Dealer did not respond).

Thanks!

End caps are part of the full mold and not available separately. The way they are cut is different as well, so wouldn't fit.

Ok. I believe you.
(I own 4 of them, and none of the lids fit)

None the less, I think there are as many Hobie/AquaTerra Toy boxes without end caps as there are socks without mates.

Might not be so painful if local Hobie Dealer was willing to order a complete box without requiring me to buy 3 of them.
(and if local hobie dealer did not go out of business).

sigh.

They can certainly order one at a time. No restriction at all from us. We just offer freight incentives for more.
