Do you set up lights on your boat? Where I sail, big $ and headaches if you get stopped. Not to mention the occasional crazed power boater often with a few under the belt.

If you have big headaches for not having legal lighting I wouldn't do what I do.. :D as battery powered legal lighting is probably cheaper than the ticket..

What I use are these.. http://www.lifegear.com/glow-sticks-1/glow-stick ( can be found cheaper at walmart... ect..)

I just wrap electrical tape around the bow holding them in lip.. They are very close to meeting exactly the prescribed viewing angles from the front and sides, and are bright enough to be seen as visibly if not more than anything else on the lake. Because of this I think they actually do meet all the legal requirements in my state, but I won't recommend it..

Clear under the end of the boom or masthead.. (sometimes... I skip that one... night vision and all.. )

I also keep very handy on my life jacket a very bright light which I can shine on the sail should a situation arise..

We have never had any issues, but our conditions might be far more lax than what you are dealing with..

Maybe try something like this?
