Post subject:  Trailer Question

i found a pristine Getaway. Now I need a trailer.

Hobie sells trailers made by Trailex for Hobie. They are aluminum and not inexpensive. Is this the way to go?

http://www.backyardboats.com/getattachm ... overs.aspx

Options include lots of stuff I may not need. With options I'm looking at over $3,000 for the trailer.

Wonder if I really need the mast stepper 3 ?

Should I get the optional cradles or are using the rollers O.K. Ad says better to use cradles to distribute load. Any thoughts on this.

I have seen people adapt utility trailers for their H16. Looked like a couple of sheets of plywood ! I do not want to trash my almost new boat.

Any help is appreciated as the boat is waiting for me and I need a trailer, fast.

Thanks

Trailex trailers are awesome, but , as you've seen, very expensive. A good galvanized trailer will last many years if properly maintained- mine's over 30 years old and has carried my 16 many miles, but I never dunk it. Had to replace the mast post, though The mast stepper is a nice idea, but if you're able to lift the mast solo, there are other ways- there are a few threads on the forums about that. I am not sure about the cradles with the rotomold boats. I have just rollers on my trailer and I've been OK, even over some pretty bad roads with my 16!
Damn shame, too! I just sold a nice custom-fabbed cat trailer for less than I had wanted just to get it out of the yard! :(

I have no idea where you're located but I have a Hobie 18 trailer with cradles up front, rollers in back. All new LED lights and wiring all new bearings, fresh packed w/bearing buddies. Pulls easy and is adjustable to other sized cats. $350 near Memphis TN
