I am also a member of catsailor and have been watching the developement of the plans for a F-14 class. Alot of the guys are using old 14's to build the F-14's. They are adding furling hooters and other fun stuff. I think that instead of taking the extra cash I have right now and buying a bigger cat, I might try and rig mine to sail like one of these. Also they are talking about speeds equal to some of the bigger cats but still the same nice light boat that anyone can right or sail alone.

Is there anyone on this board that knows about upgrading the 14. Well, it is an interesting idea.

Mr. Bob Curry and Dan Berger know a thing or two about upgrading the 14.

Next spring will be the Daggerless Regatta at Lake Hefner where you'll get a chance to meet and talk with some very good 14 sailors.

Yea, Bergers' got a hot little boat. Hooter and big squaretop main from Whirlwind, I believe. Be prepared to drop some cash, those sails aren't cheap. Your rags will be worth more than your rig.

The way to make a 14 really fast on a "budget"? Sell it and buy a 16.

I have been thinking about buying a bigger boat but after some time I am realizing that the 14 is the best boat for me. It is very light and can be righted and anything else alone. Also it is not slow when you are 1 up on it. Granted when you have two people it loses some of its get up and go but it is still a fun boat.
After alot of thought I have decided that I will stay with my 14 for now, and that I am going to try and upgrade it some. I do not have to have brand new sails and I have some extra parts laying around so I think I will be able to get this all done pretty cheap.
