the hobie 16 had a minor bent boom the sailing in Edisto Beach last week resulted in a major bend. Back home I found two trees close together perfect for boom bending. This did not go very well at all. The boom is now a good hunk of scrap metal Maybe it could become a short flag pole. Lucky I have a spare boat deep in the woods with a good boom. Guess the moral of the story is that booms are hard to fix Do people still ride on the boom this used to be popular with lightweight crews back in the day. Former Hobie Admiral Gary |

Isn't a spare, junk boat that you picked up real cheap a wonderful thing? Extra parts on demand, and can even feel generous and be a nice guy and give spare parts to your friends. Best of luck, Jim Clark-Dawe |

Gary - My kids used to ride on the boom, one at a time, when they were young. Now, their kids do it-our grandkids. I sail the boat while my wife takes care of getting the kids on the boom and leaning back against the main sail. Rich |

what size kid is too big? It seems this is for the very small. |

back in the single guy days it was not unusual to put a date up there maybe 120lbs max keep the weight near the mast. Any small kid would probably be ok This is probably done with light steady winds Would make a great family picture Really bad that I can not do this on the mighty Hobie 21 SE |
