On the website catsailor.com in the general sailing forum there is a horrible post about anger managment. They are crushing old Hobie Hulls. I think I might start to cry. I understand that some of those old hulls need to be disposed of but in all seriousness, couldn't those old hulls be used for light sailing, maybe getting younger people in to sailing!!!! WE HAVE TO STOP THIS!! |

Trey is just joking around. He buys a lot of use boats and resells them some of the boats are just to bad to fix. It just happens to be Hobie hulls because there are a lot of 16's that are just not used any more and the owners did not take care of them. We paid the price here in Wilmington,NC a few years ago when sailing was aloud on the beach but not any more. A lot of sailors left there boats in a boat area on the beach and did not care for them and did not use them (just left the boats there). When the storms came and washed the boats into peoples houses they complained and now no more cats on the beach. Trey is just disposing of the old unused boats like any good person should do. |

I guess it makes sense, but it is still sad to see that. I know alot of duck hunter that would love to make a floating blind out of those old hulls. |

Oh that would be clever to bring up to animal rights people. Kill the Ducks not the old and tired Hobies. Don't get me wrong I like poultry but think about what you are saying if you are talking to a majority. |

THAT is SAD SAD SAD. ![]() ![]() Just so you don't think I'm picking on developers - this is also a case of a few irresponsible bums costing the rest of us the privilege of ocean access. I have seen it time and again. Several places I used to sail from in the Del-Mar-Va penninsula have banned "any sail powered craft from launching from or landing on the beach" AUUGGH more -> ![]() Oh crap!! I'll put my soapbox away now ![]() (Duck Blinds built with Hobie hulls. ![]() |

Gree, Those hulls were in such bad shape that the duck hunters wouldn't trust them to stay afloat. If Trey thought he could get a dime for them he would have sold them to whoever for whatever. Chances are he could have crushed them with his feet but that wouldn't have made such great photos. I really like to see them burn, the smoke is soo thick. If you notice most of the pics were with the truck sitting at the pylons, the strongest part. Its all good! |

These hulls are of no use. They could not safely be used for anything, not even floating duck blinds (I hunt duck as well, gonna gripe about that?) Do you complain about old cars being sent to the scrap yard? I didn't think so... I don't have the room to store these hulls at my boat lot, so they have to go. At least this way, they go with style. |

You'll think this is funny. I own a number of hobies, so there is always a boat or two in my yard. My big baby is my Hobie 20, and I keep her on the trailer. Huge and white. Well, in my town, I am kind of the go to guy when there is a hobie for sale, so this lady whose husband died asked me to help her get rid of her late husbands old crappy white 18. I parted it out and right down to the crossbars, but the hulls are junk. So its sitting on a trailer in front of my house. My neighbors are all outside doing whatever they do, and I walk out of the garage with a chainsaw. I started up my trusty Stihl 029 and started cutting. It was soooo funny. The neighbors looked on in horror thinking I was hacking my 20 up. I cut the hull right in front of the crossbar and it clunked to the ground. I had tears running down my face..........I started tossing pieces of it into the back of my pickup. You had to be there. cw |
