Very cool!!

I just finished up my new spinnaker pole. I fell into and broke the last one a few weeks ago. Ouch!
Running out of nice sailing days, but now comes the BIG wind!

That would be great fun. Longest for me, that I remember is eleven miles. That's how far it is from our house on the lake to the big bridge that goes all the way across the lake. We've made that run a number of times.

We used to do a race from Atlantic Beach to Cape Lookout and back. I don't remember the mileage, but it might be a little farther than our regular lake run. Wick Smith and I won it on my 21 the first year the 21's were out without a spinnaker. Prosail was supplying the spinnakers, so I didn't need to buy one yet. There were some other boats in the race who had kites. The first leg to the lighthouse was upwind, and we had a 15 minute lead after the first leg, so finishing about 30 seconds behind the first to finish 21, who had a spinnaker, got us the win. Everyone in all the classes came to shore at halfway point at Cape Lookout, and had a small party with food before making a second start back.

That race was called the Cannonball Run. My Wife sailed it with me the next couple of years, with a spinnaker. One year it was called for lack of wind, and the other had a squall line blow through, and everyone was trapped on the beach about halfway to the lighthouse for about a half hour with blowing rain. After it passed, the race was called and everyone sailed back.
