Can anyone explain the difference in the Model Year vs The Year of Manufacture? My H16 S# last three are 780. It makes no sense to me that it would be made in 77? but being an 80 model. Or is it made in 87 in the style of an 80 model?

Edit: I have now re-checked and I had the Ser# a little wrong. However, I still am confused by what I have because it doesn't read right with the site posted by mmiller on hull numbers. The number hand engraved in the transom of both hulls is definitely: CCMF6834M78D
Any help?
P.S.: I have a sail number of 96623
I just bought this boat and I'm thinking of naming it Clawfoot (because it's an old tub).

looks like a 78 to me, at least built in 78. Sails must be from a newer boat or replacement, may be 10 years newer than the boat. Sail numbers on a 78 would be smaller old style graphics. I believe they changed around 1980.
I have a boat with a build date of 80, yet it's titled as a 79, go figure on that one.

Model year production starts in August for the next year. The reason this is done is to fill the supply chain so that boats are available when dealers make their orders for the coming season.

In the HIN, months are assigned letters (Aug. - A, Sept. - B, etc.)

So your boat was built in November of 1977 and is a 1978 model year boat.

The sail is newer, since the sail numbers from '77/'78 time period are in the mid-30000s. Sail is from the mid '90s, based on the number.

Well, that's interesting. Thanks! And, it explains why there is such a difference in condition between the jib and the main. The main shows wear but the jib is really a bit of dirty, worn laundry.
