Post subject:  Truck Camping with Boat: Will the mast clear the camper?

Not quite sure where else to put this, but my wife and I are wanting to spend more time racing this year and are contemplating a roof top tent or slide in camper for our truck.

I'm looking for ideas to help me figure out if the mast will clear it when we're towing. I'm just not a fan of driving around and waiting for a loud "bang" when we tackle a steep incline.

I have seen lots of Hobie's behind RV's and slide in bed campers. The trick is to raise the front mast support high enough to clear. Might need to modify the front support to allow for adjustment. I have seen some extreme angles to clear large RV's, also need to watch out for how low the rear gets.

Now that's a mast support......How did you determine how much taller it needed to be to clear the camper?

We're strongly considering a roof tent for our truck that will sit about 18" above the roof of the truck when folded and I have about 24" of clearance when trailering.

If you go with a pop-up style in bed camper, you will have more clearance for the mast (and improved gas mileage since it's lower profile while driving). Other options would be to extend the length of the trailer tongue, use a trailer hitch extender, or just slide the mast back farther on the trailer so the mast doesn't overhang the truck.

I cut the mast support in two parts and ad another piece in the middle

With a long fishing rod i tried the free space between the mast (fissing rod ) and the camper
In our street actualy where the picture is taken is a speed hump
with the trailer on the way down and the camper on the street whe did check the clearance again
Mastsupport is about 2,5 m
