Someone came up with the idea to set the (theoretical?) performance of the F18 class as a standard and then take it from there: http://www.schrs.com/pylookalike.php I tink it's already very interesting to see that a Hobie 18 Formula is basically 3.4 % behind that, meaning that on a race, that a F18 finishes in 100 minutes, the HC18 Formula-crew shall sail their boat some three minutes and 24 seconds later over the line to be considered equal. You can also say that the difference in speed-potential between a HC18 Formula and any F18 catamaran isn't any bigger than +/- 3%. Worse: the classic Tornado (triangular main-sail, high jib) is rated 12 seconds SLOWER than the HC18 Formula. I don't feel like I could get anywhere near a Tornado when it comes to boat-speed.... Noone beats the Nacra 20 and also modern Tornados are way ahead (Flying Phantom and Whisper aren't in the list yet), but an astonishing lot of boats is quite close arount 1 to 1.10. Io my personal experience, the Dart 18 is an interesting catamaran - I wouldn't have guessed that it clocks-in so far behind... |

I like your tagline--Information is not knowledge. That is particularly apt when talking about ratings. |

Information is not knowledge knowledge is not truth truth is not wisdom (Frank Zappa ... yeah, I listen to Zappa and Phish and Umphrey's McGee and Whitespread Panic and all that stuff) |
