Post subject: | Jan/Feb '07 Hotline |
Since I didn't see an announcement, the Jan/Feb issue of the Hotline is up. http://www.hobiecat.com/hobieclass/ I just have to say congrats to my fleet-mate Jim Wood and his wife Sue! Sue took the cover picture and that is Jim on his 17Sport. Congrats also to Alan Aplin (notice the corrected spelling!) on his great pic from the "Smoke on the Water" regatta at Skamokawa, Washington. At that time of year, the sun sets directly down the Columbia River and produces the beautiful highlights that Alan captured so well. (Alan's wife was so gracious as to allow me to sail her 17 that regatta; I promply ripped her wing-tramp on Saturday and then lost the pin from the main traveller during Sunday's distance race and had to limp back with everything jury-rigged and tied - not a good case for letting me borrow it again!) As for Jim Wood's "scenic picture", that's me single-handing on my 16 at Stevenson, WA (later that day, I found out that a 16 can indeed come FULLY out of the water, as there were some excellent standing waves at a bend upriver that made perfect launch-ramps). If that's scenic, the rest of the world is missing out on the full impact of the Columbia River Gorge. We need to get some new shots off of Multnoma Falls, by the monolith Beacon Rock, or sailing below "Cape Horn", a huge prominence who's view from the river level up is as awe-inspiring as the view from Highway 14 at the top...with this many winners this year, is Fleet 72 disqualified from this year's contest? ![]() |
