Combo Sail and Camp Trailer Concept

Post subject:  Combo Sail and Camp Trailer Concept
In traveling to many sailing venues it would be nice to conveniently and inexpensively have basic camping accommodations in tow. My first thought was hitch the camper to the back of the boat trailer (or vise versa) in a double articulated arrangement. Everyone I consulted said yes, possible, legal etc., but highly impractical and high risk for accidents not to mention backing up.

My next though was to build a flatbed large enough for both the boat and the camper thus returning to a single articulated arrangement which is familiar. I feel certain this has been done/attempted before. Anyone ever try it?

Back when I was a young man and single I had a truck camper and used that when camping and going to regattas or fishing. Sold it due to getting married and having a family. Now the kids are gone and I am looking for a truck camper to do the fun weekend trips again.

What is your tow vehicle?
Before we decided to get a motorhome I was going to get a roof top tent system for my Xterra, the good ones are not cheap though.

I drive a GMC Envoy Denali, 5.3 L V8, towing capacity = 6,000 lbs..

I had a similar need. I drive an SUV, so a SUV tent was my solution. It doesn't give you a lot of room and only sleeps one (two if the other one is your wife). https://us.napieroutdoors.com/store/cat ... index/1/2/

Subtract the mast and the steering, and you're well under 300 pounds. Build yourself a set of cradles (or carry the boat inverted) and put it on top of the pop-up camper. If you're single-handing, you'll need to get creative for launch and retrieval, but that seems way simpler than a 30-foot trailer.

Why not sleep in the back of your SUV? I slept in the bed of my pickup for many boat trips.

I have seen several camper trailers here in Australia with an extended frame rack for a H14/H16. The extended frame rack is almost identical to creating a double cat trailer.
